This week, we have the pleasure of welcoming Professor Dan Brockington as our newly appointed Director of SIID. Dan joins us from the University of Manchester where he was Professor in Conservation and Development in the School of Education, Environment and Development.

His research interests cover examining agricultural practice in sub-Saharan Africa to investigating the glamourous world of celebrity-endorsed conservation which found that celebrity promotion of charities was largely ineffective.

Dan says: “I’m really excited to be joining the Sheffield Institute for International Development, or SIID to its friends. Sheffield is brimming with talent and brilliant people with diverse skills in many different departments all of whom are working on many aspects of international development.

“I’m looking forward to these skills coming together in new and exciting projects. I want SIID to facilitate new partnerships, both within the University and beyond, that help it to realise its extraordinary potential and become an effective player in international development.”

You can hear more from Dan over on our blog!

In addition, we are also lucky enough to have recently welcomed another leading voice in international development to the Faculty of Social Sciences. Professor Frances Cleaver has joined us from King’s College London as the new Chair of International Development. We are really looking forward to working collaboratively with Frances in the future.
