Ruth project manages Rosaleen Duffy‘s European Research Council (ERC) grant, Biodiversity and Security: Understanding environmental crime, illegal wildlife and threat finance (BIOSEC). Running until August 2020 and based in the Department of Politics, the project explores whether the illegal wildlife trade is a global security threat. Ruth leads on the project’s communications and website, research support, financial management and events programme. She is a former student of the Department, having graduated in 2005 with a BA Hons in Politics.

Ruth has worked for the University of Sheffield since August 2014. Prior to taking up the BIOSEC role, she was Institute Coordinator at the Sheffield Institute for International Development (SIID),  Administrator for the Research Exchange for the Social Sciences (RESS) and Project Administrator on the EU LLP-funded PrESS project. She also worked for Sheffield City Council from 2008-2013 as a project manager for the City’s Housing Market Renewal (HMR) programme, working within some of Sheffield’s most disadvantaged neighbourhoods to deliver housing and community regeneration projects.

Ruth has a strong interest and commitment to social justice, on both a local and global level. Her skills include managing and enhancing academic networks, coordinating and organising events, research support and communications, and research project management.
