About Sally

Dr Sally Cawood is a Global Challenges Research Fellow at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning (USP), University of Sheffield, UK. Sally’s main research interests include; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) provision in low-income settlements; labour rights; gender and participation; Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and urban social movements; housing and land tenure insecurity. Sally has worked in Bangladesh, India, Uganda and Tanzania.

Sally completed her PhD at the Global Development Institute (GDI), University of Manchester, focusing on the role of Community Based Organisations (CBOs) in accessing, managing and maintaining water and sanitation facilities in low-income urban settlements in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is currently working with WaterAid on a Global Challenges Research Funded (GCRF) project on sanitation workers in India and Bangladesh.
