On November 6th, the Sheffield Institute for International Development, together with the Department of Journalism Studies, hosted a debate panel in the style of BBC’s ‘Question Time‘ on the subject of the UK’s responsibility to the rest of the world.

The debate was chaired by BBC Radio Sheffield’s Paulette Edwards, and featured the following panelists:
Caroline Kennedy: Professor of War Studies,University of Hull
Paul Blomfield MP: Labour MP for Sheffield Central
Allen Cowles: UKIP Councillor for Rotherham Metropolitan Borough
Jehangir Malik: Director of Islamic Relief UK
Martin Smith: Professor of Politics, Martin Smith, University of York

This event was part of the 12th Annual ESRC Festival of Social Science, a week-long festival offering insight into some of the country’s leading social science research and how it influences our social, economic and political lives – both now and in the future.

The debate saw a wide range of topics being covered, including international aid, multiculturalism, migrants and asylum seekers, and intervention in conflicts in Palestine and Syria.
