Colleagues from the Manchester Centre for Development Informatics (CDI) and the SIID’s Digital Technologies, Data and Innovation group (DDI) would like to invite ICT4D/DigiDev colleagues from various universities in the North of England to attend our first ICT4D North/Digital Development North joint workshop. The main aims of the workshop are to map and get to know ICT4D/Digital Development activities in the North of England and to consider how we can together build an ICT4D North/DigiDev North Network.

The venue will be: Room 1.69/70 on the first floor of the Humanities Bridgeford Street Building, which is no.35 on the University campus map, University of Manchester, Manchester, M13 9PL

We are proposing that in the first part of the day a representative from each of the universities in the proposed network (Manchester Uni, Sheffield Uni, Sheffield Hallam, MMU, Salford, Lancaster, Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores, Bolton, UCLAN, etc.) gives a very short presentation of related work going on at their institution. Then in the second part of the day there will be time for speed presentations of ongoing work by participants and in the third part we will together discuss the structure of the network and the running of it, next steps etc.

During the lunch break there will be a special brown-bag meeting for PhD- and early-career-researchers to discuss what they would like to get out of this network.

Please register for the event here.

Please consider preparing a 5min speed presentation of your research.

Please do forward this invitation to those in your own or other North-of-England institutions for whom it may be relevant.

Thanks to funding we have received, the event is free and we can offer bursaries of up to £25 for travel costs for any participants attending the event.

We are grateful for funding from the Global Development Institute, University of Manchester and the Sheffield Institute for International Development, University of Sheffield.

We are excited about the possibility of developing an ICT4D North/DigiDev North Network across all our institutions and look forward to hearing about everybody’s research and ideas for the network.

With good wishes,
